Perfect Petals

Perfect Petals is a small hanging which was put on the blog earlier in the year . It  has now been quilted. It seems like it is a time for finishing things.  Hopefully this project will be just what is wanted for Shipton Quilters who want a workshop in June. Happy Stitching.

The Jug Quilt

Hooray! I’ve Finished it.

Is n’t it wonderful when you have finished a quilt that you have had going for a long time. Its funny. Its a sort of relief somehow. You just want to start something new. With each project you learn something new. What has worked, what has not and you want to bring those things forward onto the next project. HAY-HO……

Flock of Sheep

Here is a picture of the Flock of Sheep that the ladies were given for a workshop in Leominster at the beginning of March. Some of the ladies made the sheep picture and others made the cow quilt. I am sure alot of the sheep will have black faces and black legs and feet. cannt wait to see them, when they are finished.  Thank you  Gill and Leominster quilters  for making me so welcome  even though I had a bad cold.

Three Inch Cameos

These are three 3 inch cameos from the cow quilt which have been framed in box frames.

I think these frames are wonderful and would make lovely presents. The pictures are stretched over foam mount board. With some embroidery here and there it just adds to the picture.

I love Valdani thread. I use Perle no.8 and Perle no12. Worth every penny.

Cow quilt.

This Cow Quilt measures 20″ by 20″ and is in the process of being made for a workshop with Leominster Quilters in March. I’m really looking forward to meeting them because I was due to talk to them last year but was ill. It’s amazing how you can turn blobs into animals just by adding a few embroidery stitches.

Detail of jug quilt

This is a detail of the centre of the quilt. I love shadow quilting . You get such lovely texture . It will just take some time. What is it about quilting, that it sets off pain in the arms and neck. Ahh well, slowly, slowly.

The new Jug quilt

I thought I would put a photo on the blog of the new Jug quilt even though it is blowing a gale out there. I took the original one apart and re-arranged it like this.

I am really pleased with it. Have no piecing in this one, hooray and lots of embroidery. I just have to quilt it now.

It is amazing how little time it takes to take a quilt to pieces.

Joanne’s Farm. Some Redwork.

This redwork of  Joanne’s farm has been pinned to the curtain for ages. I am  really not sure how to quilt it so that the redwork does nt get spoilt. Any ideas?

By the way,  Joanne has a lovely workshop, looking over the hills and the animals. They do classes and you get a good farm house lunch as well. A great day, be it sewing or knitting.

Cow Jug Hanging

This work in progress has one of the jugs from the jug quilt  repeated here. It has 3D flowers and  will probably  have quite a lot of embroidery.  I’m not sure what to put in the border  yet, perhaps some leaf stems. We will have to wait and see.

Here’s a detail. The embroidered ears, eyes, horns and tail will make all the difference. They will turn a couple of blobs into a cow. The quilting will change it again.

The main body of the jug is one piece of fabric and onto that, the ’landscape’ is sewn on layer upon layer. The furthest away so to speak is sewn  on first and then the nearer on next and then the nearest on last. The details of the tree, cow and embroidery are put on last. The jug spout and handle are separate pieces. The blob shapes of the leaves and petals are sewn round template plastic . Template plastic is wonderful for getting  smooth applique shapes with no pointy bits.
